The salon equipment guide 2026: hood dryers, facial steamers, hot towel cabinets and more

Which electrical equipment does your salon, spa or barbershop need? From hood dryers and Climazone processors to facial steamers, magnifying lamps, hot towel cabinets, sterilisers, wax heaters and facial machines, here is how to choose.

Published 31 October 2026 by Lime Light Hair & Beauty Products.

💡 The quick answer

Hair salons: a hood dryer or Climazone processor for colour, treatments and setting, plus a hair steamer for deep conditioning.

Beauty and spa rooms: a facial steamer, an LED magnifying lamp and a hot towel cabinet are the foundations of every facial.

Barbershops: a hot towel cabinet with UV for hot towel shaves and finishes.

Hygiene: clean and disinfect your tools, then store them in a UV sterilising cabinet; use a hot bead steriliser for small metal tools.

Add-on services: wax heaters, paraffin baths and facial machines such as high frequency, combo units and dermabrasion.

What equipment does a salon need?

It depends on your services. Think of your salon in six zones, and equip the ones that match your treatment menu:

Salon equipment zones: hair processing, facial room, hot towels, hygiene, wax and paraffin, and advanced facials

Hood dryer, Climazone or hair steamer: which do I need?

All three speed up hair services, but they do different jobs:

EquipmentWhat it doesBest for
Hood dryerEven airflow over the whole headDrying sets and rollers, colour processing and conditioning treatments
Climazone processorEven, adjustable heat (RollerBall or infrared heads)Speeding up colour, lightening, perms and treatments
Hair steamerControlled steam that opens the cuticleDeep conditioning and moisture treatments

Ribalta hood dryers come on a stand with 2 or 3 speeds, in an ionic version, or wall mounted to save floor space. The Climazone RollerBall and Climazone Infrared 5 Head deliver even heat for faster processing, and the Ribalta Hair Steamer takes treatments deeper.

What do I need for a facial room?

  • A facial steamer: warm steam opens pores and softens the skin before cleansing, extractions and masks. Choose the Ribalta Facial Steamer with timer, metal base and handle (white or black), a wall-mount steamer to save space, or the Salon Pro Mini Table Top Steamer for mobile therapists. The white Ribalta steamer is our most popular piece of facial equipment.
  • An LED magnifying lamp: bright, even light and magnification for facials, extractions, brows, lashes and nail art. Available on a mobile stand or without a stand for clamping or mounting.
  • An infrared light: targeted warmth for facials, scalp therapies and treatment masks.

💡 Steamer care tip

Most facial steamers should be filled with distilled water to prevent scale build-up. Always check the water level before switching on, and follow the cleaning advice in the manual.

Why does my salon need a hot towel cabinet?

A warm towel is one of the simplest ways to make a service feel luxurious. Barbers use them for hot towel shaves and beard finishes; therapists use them for facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. Salon Pro hot towel cabinets keep towels warm and ready, and the UV models add an extra layer of hygiene. They are among the most popular pieces of equipment at Lime Light.

How do I keep my salon tools hygienic?

Hygiene protects your clients and your reputation. A simple routine works best:

  1. Clean: remove hair, product and debris from every tool after each client.
  2. Disinfect: use a professional disinfectant as directed on the label.
  3. Store clean: keep disinfected tools in a Salon Pro UV Sterilising Cabinet (standard or large) until the next client.
  4. Small metal tools: a Hot Bead Sterilizer uses dry heat for tweezers, nippers and other small implements.

Which wax, paraffin and facial machines should I add?

Equipment for add-on services can quickly pay for itself:

  • Ribalta Double Wax Heater: two chambers for 500g and 800g pots, so you can heat two wax types at once. Pair it with our Depilève waxing guide.
  • Paraffin wax heaters: the Salon Pro 3kg heater, or the 4kg kit with paraffin wax, mitts, booties and liners, for softening hand and foot treatments.
  • High Frequency Unit: a classic for clarifying, stimulating facials.
  • 5-in-1 Combo Facial Unit: high frequency, galvanic, vacuum, spray and rotary brush in one space-saving unit. The 10-in-1 Combo Machine builds a complete facial station.
  • Diamond Dermabrasion: diamond-tip exfoliation with vacuum suction for smoother, refreshed skin.
  • G5 Body Massager: with attachments for body and massage treatments.

Advanced facial machines should only be used by qualified, trained therapists. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions, check for client contraindications, and have electrical equipment checked and maintained regularly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a hood dryer and a Climazone?

A hood dryer blows warm air evenly over the head for drying, setting and processing. A Climazone uses even, adjustable heat (RollerBall or infrared) to speed up colour, lightening, perms and treatments.

Do I need a facial steamer?

For most facials, yes. Steam softens the skin and opens pores before cleansing, extractions and masks.

What is a hot towel cabinet used for?

It keeps towels warm for hot towel shaves, facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. UV models add an extra layer of hygiene.

Does a UV sterilising cabinet replace disinfecting?

No. Clean and disinfect tools first, then store them in the UV cabinet to keep them clean until you use them.

Which water should I use in a facial steamer?

Most steamers recommend distilled water to prevent scale. Always follow the manual for your model.
